What is this super 8 thing you speak of?

According to Kodak, a Super 8mm camera is a motion picture camera specifically manufactured to use the Super 8mm motion picture format. Your grandmother on the other hand will probably tell you it’s what they used to use to make home videos or what the first versions of Star Wars were filmed on. The video is filmed on REAL film and can be viewed using a vintage projector. It does not record sound, so no worries about saying the wrong thing or something you wouldn’t want your parents to hear. It also makes a very aesthetically pleasing ticking noise while filming; probably my favorite thing ever.

Why do I need it?

It’s authentic, it’s raw, it’s real and it’s you. Want your love story to be documented with vibes like Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdam in The Notebook? This is how we achieve that. Super 8 is dreamy as all get out due to it’s grainy, soft and timless look. It’s almost hard to not have the perfect love story when documented on a real vintage movie camera. No matter if your wanting coverage of your wedding, engagement or of your family; this is the perfect addition to any shoot. These are each extremely unique just like you. There will never be two videos even close to the same.

FAQ

  • Yes of course! I love making little love movies. These are always so personal and precious.

  • Yes, without a doubt! Let me know you are interested when you're putting in your inquiry and we can go over all the little details to give you a more accurate quote.

  • Yes, I’d be more than happy to! Super 8 is one of my favorite things to shoot so I take up any opportunity I get to use the camera. Even thinking about it makes me giddy and I hope you get the same feeling looking at your video when you get it back.

  • Once we shoot the film, I send it off to New York to get developed, processed and scanned. This can take up to three weeks on its own. Then once I get the videos, I color correct, edit, clip and put the whole video to music. The whole process can take anywhere from 5 to 8 weeks. Think of getting the video back as a little christmas present.

  • Unfortunately no. The music used has to be liscenced for commercial use so there is a specific catelog of music I am allowed to use. I know this isn’t as much fun as your favorite song from spotify but it’s what I gotta do.

  • On average, the videos I create are between 3-5 minutes long but can be longer upon request. I typically use about 3-4 rolls to create the highlight video. This allows me to use the best of the best footage to ensure your video is as pristine as possible.

  • The excess footage will be given back to you so you can see all of it. I know most people still want to see the rest and it’s not always bad; just not best. You will recieve the final fully edited video, color graded and all; then the version I get back from the lab that is all patched together. This one won’t be as pretty but has all the info.

  • I only give the original physical video tape back when it is specifically requested from the client. Otherwise I store it away for safe keeping so it can be rescanned at a later date if needed.

Color correction

This is important because this is a big part of what makes this NOT just your grandmothers home videos. Color correction is the magic sauce that brings everything together.

*Remember that the final highlight video will be color corrected, while the unused clips will not be.
